Great news today reported by the Associated Press:
ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — Organizers of the South Dakota Film Festival say actor Kevin Costner will attend this year’s festival in Aberdeen.
Costner won Academy Awards for best director and best picture for “Dances with Wolves” in 1991. Costner, now 54, also was nominated the same year for best actor.
Much of the Oscar-winning movie was filmed in South Dakota.
This year’s South Dakota Film Festival, the third annual, is Sept. 18-20 at the Capitol Theatre in Aberdeen.
According to the festival’s Web site, Costner is to speak during the opening session Sept. 18 and take part in a discussion with students Sept. 19.
What a coup this is for the South Dakota Film Festival, which is only three years old. It’s also great news for people who appreciate Costner’s films, like me.
Most people think of "Dances with Wolves" when they think of Costner, but I think of "Open Range." It’s one of my all-time favorite movies. I also loved "Field of Dreams" and "Bull Durham." Heck, I even liked "Waterworld."
What’s your favorite Costner flick?
