McGovern, Abourezk hit the road for Heidepriem

According to the Rapid City Journal, former U.S. senators George McGovern and Jim Abourezk are hitting the road to campaign for state Sen. Scott Heidepriem, D-Sioux Falls, who is seeking his party’s nomination to run for governor next year.

"Our hope is that we can get folks out who have not participated in a while and rekindle an old spark in them to fight to take their government back and make their voices heard once again," McGovern was quoted as saying in a Rapid City Journal blurb based on a news release.

I saw something else recently about the two senators going to Aberdeen. I’m not sure if that ever happened. I’ll be interested to see if they bring their tour to Mitchell.

  1. Interesting to watch Heidepriem’s political maturation process over the years. GOP. RHINO. DEMOCRAT. I’d be very surprised if a whistle stop in Mitchell didn’t happen. After all, it’s in Scott’s backyard and George’s hometown. We should get a chance to meet and greet our future governor like everybody else.

  2. Actually, it looks like there’s a pretty good crop of gubernatorial candidates this year from both parties. I’m guessing it will be a competitive race.
