George McGovern turns 88 today. That’s a remarkable age.
But what’s even more remarkable is how the former South Dakota congressman (1957-61) and senator (1963-81) will mark his birthday. He’s jumping out of a plane over Florida, his first skydiving experience. McGovern told us Sunday he thought of it a week ago, inspired by former President George H.W. Bush, whom he says is a friend.
McGovern said he almost bailed out of his plane while flying missions over Germany in World War II but never gave that order to his crew. Now, more than six decades later, he will hit the silk today in a tandem jump with a trained parachuter.
What’s your thoughts of McGovern’s birthday plunge? What politician would you like to see jump out of a plane? Would you jump out of a perfectly good airplane?
