NRA endorses Herseth Sandlin

I just got back from vacation and saw this news release from yesterday. It’s got to be a major disappointment for Kristi Noem, who has presented herself as the candidate who’s strong on conservative issues such as the Second Amendment.

Cites “A” Rating, Demonstrated Commitment to Second Amendment Rights, Consistent Pro-Gun Voting Record

September 28, 2010 – U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin has once again earned the endorsement of the National Rifle Association in her campaign for South Dakota’s U.S. House seat.  In endorsing Herseth Sandlin, the NRA cited her demonstrated commitment to our Second Amendment Rights and her consistent pro-gun voting record on behalf of South Dakota’s gun owners, hunters and shooters.  Herseth Sandlin also, once again, earned an “A” rating from the NRA.

Herseth Sandlin said, “As a hunter and a gunowner, I proudly defend the Second Amendment as an individual right.  It’s a fundamental part of the South Dakota way of life, and an essential part of our economy.  I am honored to receive the endorsement from the NRA as a reflection of my strong pro-gun voting record.”

Chris W. Cox, chairman of the NRA-PVF stated, “The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund supports Stephanie Herseth Sandlin because she has defended the Second Amendment freedoms of law-abiding gun owners, hunters and sportsmen in South Dakota and across America.  On November 2, I urge all South Dakota NRA Members and gun owners to vote Stephanie Herseth Sandlin for Congress.”

In selecting to endorse Rep. Herseth Sandlin, the NRA highlighted her work on a number of issues important to gun owners in South Dakota, including her support for:

·      The D.C. Personal Protection Act

·      The Second Amendment Enforcement Act

·      Amicus brief to the Supreme Court on the Heller case

·      Amicus brief to the Supreme Court on the McDonald case

·      A letter to Attorney General Eric Holder opposing a ban on semi-automatic firearms and ammunition magazines

·      Legislation to reform the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives

Herseth Sandlin has earned the NRA’s endorsement and earned an “A” rating in every election since she became South Dakota’s Congresswoman.

Attached is the letter from the NRA announcing their endorsement.
