Ready, aim, fire

South Dakota’s unofficial state holiday starts at noon Saturday, when the 2010 pheasant season hits full speed.

Of course, the season kinda opened last weekend with the residents-only opener. I saw a few hunters wearing blaze orange out in the fields.

And some private lodges had hunters blasting away in September. But for the most part and for most hunters, tomorrow is the big day.

Tonight is also a major event, as hunters fire up before firing away with parties and celebrations at local bars and homes. There might be a reason the season doesn’t open until noon, since some may need some time to recover.

We have a story running Saturday on another side of the pheasant season as we headed to Winner and Dallas to check on the strippers who flock to South Dakota this time of year.

So happy hunting, partying and dancing, folks. Aim true, be safe and have fun. And drink plenty of water and keep your dogs hydrated in what promises to be a hot opener.
